COUNSELLING GUIDE

Counselling for adults, adolescents and children

Below you will find the services I offer for counselling adults, adolescents and children. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

I don’t know about you, but nobody told me life would be so tricky to navigate. Remember how we all wanted to be so grown up? Well, it’s harder than we thought it would be.

Counselling is never a one-size-fits-all approach, and our first consultation will usually be a chat about where you’re at and where you’d like to be. It is so important that you find someone that you connect with and to whom you can speak openly and honestly. We then decide where to from here, and mutually agree a general plan to get there.

Maybe you’re in a troublesome relationship and need someone to talk to. Maybe you’re struggling with a low mood and you’d like some help lifting yourself up. Maybe you’re in a reasonably good space but feeling stuck and you just need to light a fire in your life; let’s talk about motivation, goal setting and personal growth areas!

What kind of areas could we work on?

  • Adjustment to life changes
  • Anxiety
  • Coping skills
  • Depression
  • Engaging in your life
  • Goal setting
  • Mindfulness
  • Motivation
  • Parenting
  • Personal Growth
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Stress management
  • Trauma debriefing

It feels like I was in High School just yesterday.  While I made it through relatively unscathed, I remember it being a time of high stress, anxiety and friendship difficulties.  I was lucky that social media wasn’t around, and bullying wasn’t as bad as it seems to be today, but I had my fair share of troubles to navigate.  School life is full of all sorts of pressure, and I’d love to try and help your children manage their stress, deal with their difficulties and engage in their lives in a positive way.

I majored in Early Childhood Development, and watching children grow makes me happy.  By the end of May 2018, I will be certified in DIR Floortime®.  This is a play therapy approach for children from the age of 12 months.  DIR Floortime® promotes development through a playful, joyful, and engaging process.  We use the power of human connection and floor play to engage with children, encouraging communication, positive behaviours and learning.

How can DIR Floortime® help your child?

  • Autism Spectrum Disorders
  • Sensory Processing difficulties
  • Developmental delays
  • ADHD or other learning challenges
  • Emotional coping skills
  • Adjusting to change
  • Communication difficulties
  • Improving self-confidence

Play therapy (and DIR Floortime® in particular) is a wonderful process for children to learn about themselves and their environment.  Perhaps your child is struggling to adjust to the school environment, needs a little help developing communication skills, or could use some guidance on coping

with big emotions.  We can encourage positive behaviours and coping skills through play and activities.

In addition to play therapy, I also offer a range of services for older children, including:

  • Basic emotional functioning assessments
  • Behavioural difficulties
  • Communication problems
  • Social difficulties
  • Support through life changes

My natural counselling approach involves a variety of creative and activity based techniques to encourage conversation and development around a particular topic.  For example, I incorporate reading books together, watching short video’s, working on small projects, craft activities, paper based exercises and even making our own playdough (my absolute favourite!)

My ultimate goal is for your child to feel comfortable with me.  I naturally connect well with kiddies and if I had my way, I would spend all day covered in playdough and getting messy.  I promise, despite all the playing taking place, we are doing some serious work in development and learning.

  • Motivation, Goal Setting and Engaging in your life
  • Positive Psychology
  • The Science of Happiness
